Box Elder VINELink Release Coverage
Utah VINE is the state's free automated custody information and notification service. It can be reached through VINELink or by calling 1-877-884-8463. Utah Department of Corrections instructions say a caller may enter a person's name or offender number to learn whether a UDC offender is in custody and whether a release date exists. A live operator can help when the identity entry fails. The service runs continuously, but availability does not make it the official release record.
State sources describe VINE coverage broadly across Utah prisons and jails. They do not provide a county-by-county feed table proving that every Box Elder County booking is present. Test the live search for the specific record or call the operator. UDC records are the firmer route for a state prisoner. Box Elder County Booking and Sheriff's Records remain the direct routes for an ordinary county detainee. A federal prisoner belongs in the federal Bureau of Prisons system, not VINE.
Custody type controls the confirmation path. A local detainee may leave the Box Elder County Correctional Facility on bond, after a court order, or when a jail term ends. The same building can also hold a UDC-controlled prisoner under a state contract. That person remains a state case even while physically housed in Brigham City. VINELink may help track either record when the reporting agency participates, but the legal custodian supplies the authoritative status. Check the agency shown on the match before interpreting any event.
Search Box Elder VINELink Records
A reliable search starts with one person's verified details. Use a full legal name and an offender number when one is known. Common names can produce more than one candidate, and a similar spelling is not enough to establish identity. The county Corrections page does not publish an online roster, so VINELink should not be treated as a mirror of a Box Elder list. It is a separate person-specific system. That local absence also means there is no official web list against which to compare a VINE name. Agency and identity checks carry more weight.
- Open VINELink and select Utah before entering any identity details.
- Choose the person or offender search, then enter the name or offender number.
- Compare the available identifier, agency, facility, and custody facts before opening a record.
- Read the event label exactly. A transfer, facility move, or community correctional center placement is not the same as release.
- Use the registration option only after confirming that the record belongs to the right person.
If VINELink returns no match, do not infer that custody ended. The feed may not include that booking, the name may differ, or the record may have moved outside the service's current view. Note: A no-result screen can reflect coverage or identity limits, so it is not proof that a person has been released.
Box Elder VINELink Release Fields
UDC's official VINE description confirms a narrow core: name or offender-number lookup, custody information, and an indication of whether a release date exists. The exact wording of a released web result was not captured in the county research, so no fixed status phrase should be expected. Read what the live record says and preserve the agency name and event type.

The event vocabulary matters. Utah VINE may report release, transfer, escape, return from escape, death, a parole release date in advance, or moves among prison sites, a county jail, and a community correctional center. A community correctional center, sometimes shortened to CCC, is a supervised placement. It is not automatically the same as living without custody controls.
VINE does not replace the broader UDC field inventory. The corrections department separately identifies legal status, offender number, custody location, offenses and sentence length, Board hearing date, Parole/Expiration Date, sentencing court and case data, and a prison photograph as public offender information. Those fields can help confirm a state identity and explain a notice. Yet UDC's public search covers only current supervision. A person who completed every part of the sentence may require a records request rather than a live search. Preserve the date of any saved result.

The official VINELink entry screen is where a user selects Utah and begins the one-person custody search.
The captured screen identifies the correct public portal. It does not show a Box Elder County result or prove that a particular booking participates in the feed.
Register Box Elder Release Alerts
Registration begins from the correct person record. Select the notice option and choose phone or email. For a phone alert, enter the number and create a confirmation PIN that can be recalled but is not easy for someone else to guess. Complete the prompts shown by VINE. Email is available too, but Utah's instructions do not say that email uses the telephone PIN process.
- Confirm the offender record by name, number, and reporting agency.
- Choose registration and select phone or email as the delivery channel.
- For phone registration, enter the number and set the requested PIN.
- Finish the confirmation steps shown in the live service.
- When a phone notice arrives, enter the PIN to acknowledge the event.
Registration should match the event a user needs. A transfer notice answers where custody moved, while a release notice concerns an exit reported by the source agency. Keep the alert details. Then call or search the responsible government office. Utah law also provides a separate written victim-notification process under Utah Code ยง64-13-14.7. It can cover listed events such as release, certain placements or transfers, escape, and termination of probation or parole. That signed statutory request is not the same as public VINELink registration, and the request has privacy protections. Use the channel that matches the person's role and notice needs rather than treating the two systems as interchangeable.
Note: Phone and email are separate channels; do not assume that the phone PIN instructions also govern an email notice.
Why Utah VINE PINs Matter
Utah's confirmation loop is unusually specific. After VINE calls with an event, the recipient enters the correct PIN to acknowledge it. Until that happens, UDC says the call can repeat each hour for as long as 48 hours. If the system leaves a message, another attempt is expected within two hours. More than one registered phone number may share the same PIN.
That detail makes the PIN operational, not cosmetic. Everyone who is meant to receive a shared phone alert should know the confirmation plan without disclosing the PIN beyond those users. An answered call without the correct entry does not stop the retry cycle. The rule applies to phone notifications as described by UDC. It should not be extended to email without a prompt in the live service.
A repeated call can signal that confirmation was missed, not that a second custody event occurred. Compare the event text and time before contacting the responsible agency.
Confirm Box Elder VINELink Releases
For an ordinary Box Elder County jail booking, call the Sheriff's main line at 435-734-3800 and follow the Booking prompts. The county says that route handles current-inmate, bail, and charge questions around the clock. The Sheriff's directory also lists Booking at 435-734-3839. If the person is no longer held and staff cannot provide a public release fact, contact Sheriff's Records/GRAMA at 435-734-3822 or use the county GRAMA portal to seek the existing booking and release record.
For a UDC offender, compare VINE with the UDC Offender Search. That search covers only people currently incarcerated, on probation, or on parole under UDC. A legal status of parolee shows release from prison into supervision. A fully discharged person may no longer appear, so a historic answer may require a UDC records request and a Board decision. A Board hearing date is not a release date.
The court record adds the legal reason when county custody ends. Utah Courts Xchange may show a pretrial order, bond conditions, dismissal, judgment, sentence, warrant, or later modification. It may not show the moment the person cleared the jail door. Pair the court action with the Sheriff's booking and release record. If that record names UDC, another county, federal authorities, or immigration custody as the receiver, classify the event as a transfer until the receiving agency confirms otherwise.
Federal custody has a separate path. The BOP Inmate Locator covers federal prisoners and some released records, while ICE and U.S. Marshals custody involve their own systems. VINELink cannot settle those cases. Across all channels, compare identity first, separate release from transfer, and use the original agency record for the final answer.
